FAQ: Computer Recycling
Q: Is there a limit to how much I can bring?
A: For households, there is no limit! If you are a business with more than 10 units, please give us a call first so we can prepare space.
Q: Is my Data Safe?
A: Yes. At Indy Laptops, data security is our top priority. Unlike big recycling centers that just shred everything, we take a safer approach:
Option 1: Walk Out With Your Drive (Our Preference)
We remove the hard drive or SSD from your computer and hand it directly back to you. This allows you to take the drive home and keep it in a safe place. If you ever realize you forgot to back up an important file or family photo, you still have the data! You can simply bring the drive back to us later, and we can help you recover those files.
Option 2: Physical Destruction. If you do not want to keep the drive, we can physically destroy it on-site and send the scraps to be recycled, ensuring your data is gone forever.
Q: Do you really recycle it, or does it go in the trash? A: We adhere to strict "No Landfill" policies. Usable parts are harvested to repair other machines (reducing waste), and unusable metals and plastics are sent to certified e-waste processors.
Q: Can I recycle a computer that has a swollen battery?
A: Yes, but please alert our technician immediately upon arrival so we can handle it safely.
